- The Nashville Symphony Fashion Show has announced Brandon Maxwell as the featured designer for their 2023 fundraiser.
Brandon Maxwell has been selected as the featured designer for next year’s Symphony Fashion Show in Nashville, organizers announced this week.
The runway show, scheduled for April 25, 2023, is expected to showcase ensembles from the luxury designer’s fall 2023 collection.
The fashion show was founded in 2006 as a fundraiser for the Grammy-award-winning Nashville Symphony Orchestra, which holds over 140 performances a year. The orchestra performs music from a range of genres, from jazz to classical to pop.
The upcoming Symphony Fashion Show will be presented by Birmingham-based department store Gus Mayer, FirstBank and Nissan. Co-chairs Mary Morgan Ketchel and Lisa Manning are in charge of organizing the show, with help from executive chair Sandra Lipman.

Maxwell’s namesake ready-to-wear brand was founded in 2015 in New York.

“He has a classic style with a contemporary feel,” Manning said. “He pushes the boundaries a little bit.”
Ketchel expressed a similar sentiment.
“It very much mirrors the feeling you get in Nashville with all the music and being in a Southern city that has a lot of tradition,” she said. “But he still has a great urban, artistic style.”
Having Maxwell, who has dressed Gwyneth Paltrow, Oprah Winfrey and Michelle Obama, display his work in Nashville would be a major turning point for the Music City fashion community, Ketchel said, but she doesn’t believe the area’s fashion scene is at a standstill.

“I actually think there is a lot happening in Nashville,” she said. “There are a lot of collaborations going on.”
Maxwell is frequently cited for dressing public figures and women involved in renowned projects, Ketchel said.
“He’s got a great relationship with the arts community, and I think that the feeling you get when you see his pieces is that there’s an artful intention,” she says. “I think that it’s appealing to the type of women that you see him dressing for events like the Met Gala, and some of the celebs he’s been dressing that are doing big things.”
His designs are described as wearable and accessible.

“Brandon is incredibly energetic and forward-thinking, and we have enjoyed working with him,” Manning said.
Maxwell showed his Spring 2023 collection at New York Fashion Week in September.
“The Spring 2023 collection is a gorgeous mix of dresses, pants, blazers and shoes in fresh colors and attention-grabbing patterns,” according Janice Elliott Morgan, designer buyer at Gus Mayer.

A launch event for the Spring collection at Gus Mayer Nashville was scheduled for Tuesday.
Maxwell is no a stranger to the south.
He is a Texas native, and everyone on his team, including his manager, is from the South, too.
“They are a team of incredible talent, but they are also warm and friendly,” Manning said. “That’s great because that’s Nashville. We are warm, and we are friendly.”
