Musicians demand a clear plan to reopen the live entertainment industry

Musicians and artists are asking the government to announce plans to reopen the Irish live entertainment industry.

From p to 100 demonstrators participated in a protest outside Dail at the Dublin Convention Center calling for a government promise to reopen the sector.

Industry experts have been off work for over a year and want to clarify their plans for a resurgence of live music.

Live music is banned at all venues, despite the reopening of the outdoor hospitality department and changes in the number of guests allowed to attend the wedding.

Event singer Jenny Odnovan said she needed to publish guidance to allow live music.

Singing at weddings, drink receptions and funerals, Odnovan had to get a job as a caregiver.

“Singing was my full-time gig and I had to get a caregiver job because I didn’t receive the full PUP (Pandemic Unemployment Payment). I’m very grateful but I wake up every day I don’t want it, I want to do it, “she told PA news agency.

“I really want to go back to the song, that’s good for the soul.”

There is concern that the increase in the number of Covid-19 cases associated with the first confirmed delta mutation in India may delay resumption in Ireland.

Mr. Odnovan added: Last year, at level 3 when there was no vaccination, I was allowed to play in a corner away from everyone. Why can’t it be safe for clients and couples right now? “

“Music is not good for everyone. It raises your mood.”

Jon Flanagan, a musician who plays pop, country and traditional music at bars and weddings, said:

“The last gig was on March 12th last year. There is no live music and no direction to go back to work.

“Failte Ireland published guidelines a few weeks ago banning live music and entertainment of all kinds.

“Live music doesn’t have to be loud music, I just want to get back to work.”
