Graham Zusi turned back the clock to record both a goal and an assist as Sporting Kansas City rolled to a 3-1 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps in the first round of the MLS playoffs on Saturday. The goal, in particular, was spectacular, a long-range strike from well outside the box — and was significant as just the second goal the 35-year-old wingback has scored since 2018.
Khiry Shelton opened the scoring for third-seeded Kansas City in the 17th minute, and though Vancouver answered back from the penalty spot in the 39th, Nicolas Isimat-Marit restored the advantage off a corner kick mere moments before halftime.
Sporting will face either Seattle or Real Salt Lake in the next round in its quest to reach its first conference final since 2018. For Vancouver, meanwhile, the wait goes on for a first playoff victory since 2017.
