Toronto Blue Jays vs. Chicago White Sox
At first glance, this looks like an easy win for the Blue Jays.
Pitcher Chris Bassitt has had a good (but not great) season so far, with an 8-4 record in 18 starts, a 4.32 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP. However, he has struggled away from home, going 2-4 in eight road starts with a 6.38 ERA and a .296 opponents’ batting average.
Aaron Civale is scheduled to start for Chicago, and much like the rest of the team, he has had some struggles. He’s 1-5 in nine starts with a 4.60 ERA and a 1.49 WHIP. But he tends to bring his A-game at home (0-1 in three starts, 2.63 ERA, and .224 opponents’ batting average).
Our pick: White Sox moneyline at +148
Toronto is one of the best teams in the league and has already beaten the White Sox (on June 22). Chicago is one of the worst, but the stars may be in alignment for the White Sox to steal a win. Bassitt has gotten shelled on the road; Civale has been solid at home.
We wouldn’t take the White Sox if they had minus-money odds, but at +148, it’s worth the risk.
Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Milwaukee Brewers
On the road, he’s been even better — 2-0 in four starts with a 1.50 ERA and .219 opponents’ batting average. But young Jacob Misiorowski is not going to make it easy for the Dodgers. In his first three starts, he pitched two shutouts and gave up two runs in the other.
However, the Mets hit him hard in his last outing, recording five hits (two home runs) and five runs in 3 2/3 innings.
Our pick: Brewers moneyline at +100
The under will more than likely also hit, but this is a game Milwaukee can win. The Brewers are hitting the ball well. It will not be easy to put balls into play against Kershaw, but they might not need many.
Arizona Diamondbacks vs. San Diego Padres
The starting pitchers for today’s game are both having strong seasons: Merrill Kelly for the Diamondbacks and Nick Pivetta for the Padres. Kelly has a 7-4 record in 18 starts with a 3.55 ERA. Pivetta is 9-2 in 17 starts with a 3.25 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP.
Pivetta has been solid against Diamondbacks hitters. In 79 at-bats, he’s held them to a .165 batting average (13-for-79). Kelly has faced the Padres in 172 at-bats, limiting them to a .232 average (41-for-172).
Our pick: Padres moneyline
Expect this to be a close, low-scoring game. Both pitchers have been throwing well and should deliver solid outings. But where the Padres could pull away is once the starters exit. San Diego has one of the best bullpens in baseball. The under (7.5) at +100 could also be a great play here.
