Minnesota County Attorneys Avoid Political-Endorsement Suit

Four Minnesota county attorneys are immune from a suit seeking to prevent them from enforcing a state law that prevents candidates from lying about political endorsements, the Eighth Circuit said Tuesday.

The Minnesota Fair Campaign Practices Act says that no candidate may make a false claim that they are endorsed by a political party or state in written campaign material that they have the support of someone without first getting written permission from the individual. The law also says that county attorneys may prosecute a violation of the law.
