Road to the Championship: Jason 5:00
MIAMI, FL. (WJRT) – ABC12 Sports brings you sports live tonight from Miami Gardens where Friday night, Michigan will hit the field against Georgia in the College Football Playoff Semifinals.
Now I don’t mean to rub it in, but the weather here couldn’t be much better. Sunny and 79 degrees, but with that also comes the South Florida humidity…
Michigan hasn’t played, let alone practiced in weather like this since back in August during fall camp.
That is a big reason why the Wolverines didn’t change their travel plans when the College Football Playoff committee said they were allowed to delay their flight up until 48 hours before kickoff to play it safe due to COVID cases on the rise throughout the country.
The players admit that it has been an adjustment acclimating to the weather, but being in town since Saturday has been a huge help.Â
Michigan has seven players on it’s roster from the state of Georgia, most of which were recruited heavily by the Bulldogs.
No one on the Wolverines side though, knows the UGA program quite like defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald.Â
Macdonald was a grad assistant there on Mark Richt’s staff back in 2010.
While the names, faces, and coaching staff may have changed over the years, Macdonald still has a soft spot for Georgia.
Although, that won’t be the case for three and a half hours on Friday night.
You got to love how everything has come full circle for Macdonald. Now, he’s playing the program that gave him his start with a trip to the national championship on line.
As Macdonald said earlier this week, it’s a pinch yourself kind of moment.Â
