CATSKILL — Standing committees of the Greene County Legislature were set for 2023 as lawmakers got down to business for the new year Wednesday at the annual reorganization meeting.
Committee appointments reflected the dominance of the GOP as all eight leadership posts were awarded to Republicans.
The leadership appointments were spread out among eight different lawmakers.
Legislator Charles Martinez of Coxsackie will chair the Finance Committee, thought to be the most powerful of all the committees. All resolutions must pass through Finance on their way to the full Legislature. Others on the committee are Legislator Thomas Hobart of Coxsackie, legislators Linda Overbaugh and Michael Bulich of Catskill, Legislator Greg Davis of Greenville and Democratic Legislator Daryl Legg of Hunter.
Davis will head up Government Operations, the second most powerful legislative committee. He is joined by Martinez, Hobart, Legg and Legislator Joseph Lucas of Catskill.
Bulich will chair the County Resources Committee. Serving with him are Overbaugh, Lucas, Legg, Legislator Patty Handel of Durham and Legislator Sherry B. True of Cairo.
Legislator Ed Bloomer of Athens was selected to chair the County Services Committee. Joining him are Overbaugh, Lucas, Handel, True and Legg.
Overbaugh will lead the Economic Development and Tourism Committee. Her committee members are Bulich, Handel, Bloomer, True and Legislator James Thorington of Prattsville.
Handel will chair the Health Services Committee. The other members are Davis, Hobart, Bloomer, Lucas and True.
