- Mark Consuelos attempted on Live to slice a banana in the vein of British etiquette coach William Hanson.
- Consuelos grew visibly frustrated over the method and lashed out at Hanson on the air.
- The actor-cohost said that Hanson probably “sits down when he pees” and urged him to “be a guy.”
All it takes to throw Live cohost Mark Consuelos into a state of complete and total himbo chaos is, apparently, a simple banana.
Consuelos began Thursday morning’s show with a simple task at the request of his wife, Kelly Ripa: Slice a banana in the vein of William Hanson, a British etiquette coach whose method of delicately cutting into the piece of fruit caused quite an on-air predicament for Consuelos.
“The Brits are weighing in about the proper way to eat a banana. There is a proper way to eat a banana,” Ripa advised, as Consuelos brought out a banana on a plate and set it on the cohosts’ table.

Ripa continued, advising Consuelos that, as Hanson instructed, “Instead of eating the banana the way you do, like a monster, you should eat it with a knife and fork.” She then instructed her husband to cut one end of an unpeeled banana off, and then flip it around and do the same on the other side.
“William, William, William. Come on, William. No one’s going to do this. It’s like, if you’re a guy, the perks of eating a banana is you don’t have to use utensils. You can just eat it,” Consuelos said, before even attempting to engage with the fruit that sat before him. “It’s like if you’re a guy and you’re in the woods, you can pee anywhere you want without any, like, fear, you know?”
Consuelos then cut one end off, and then moved to the other end. Ripa’s follow-up instructions, however, sent him off the deep end.
“And then you slice the skin,” Ripa said, leading Consuelos to toss the banana down and exclaim, “Oh, no” before eating a bare-peeled banana — while looking directly into the camera — instead.
But, he wasn’t done with Hanson just yet. After Ripa noted that the internet was “outraged” over Hanson’s banana-slicing style, Consuelos launched into a stern criticism for the Englishman.
“I’m going to say something controversial because I know you can cut it out,” Consuelos said, looking over toward producer Michael Gelman. “I say William sits down when he pees as well. Stand up, William. How about that? Be a guy!”
Entertainment Weekly has reached out to Hanson and to his English Manner etiquette institute for a response to Consuelos.
Thursday’s episode didn’t mark the first time the cohosts voiced gendered criticism for men on Live, as he and Ripa previously discussed on an October episode an instance of “alpha” behavior that saw Consuelos shame an airplane passenger over his bag.

Ripa recalled that, on the plane, “every overhead compartment was occupied,” and that Consuelos “took out a man’s man purse” from the stowage area.
Consuelos then admitted, “I didn’t even ask him” and “I shamed him into doing that, like, put it under the seat.”
