Marin well represented in NCS volleyball brackets

Marin girls volleyball teams have been making deep postseason runs consistently for more than a decade. The release of the North Coast Section brackets on Sunday suggests that trend is set to continue this season.

Five Marin teams earned top-two seeds and will be favored to make it all the way to the section finals. Four of them could be on a collision course in the Division II and III finals.

Marin Catholic, the top-ranked team in Northern California, unsurprisingly was awarded the No. 1 seed in D-II. The Wildcats are joining by league rival Redwood, the No. 2 seed in the D-II bracket.

MC is set to host Bethel at 7 p.m. on Wednesday while Giants host Ukiah.

Division III is overflowing with MCAL teams — five of them in total. Branson is the No. 1 seed, followed by Archie Williams (No. 2), Tam (No. 4), Terra Linda (No. 5) and Novato (No. 8).

Four of the five teams host games at 7 p.m. on Tuesday night — Branson faces Alhambra, Tam faces Albany, TL takes on Moreau Catholic, and Archie Williams welcome Head-Royce. Despite being the higher seed, the Hornets travel to face Encinal at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Marin Academy is the fifth team from the county to earn a high seed, sitting at No. 2 in D-IV behind Cardinal Newman. The Wildcats host John Swett at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

San Rafael rounds out the Marin contingent, seeded fourth in D-IV. The Bulldogs host Fortuna at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
