After the surprising decision to make rebel leader Eknath Shinde the chief minister and BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis his deputy, Uddhav Thackeray questioned the move to appoint a so-called Shiv Sainik to the CM’s post when BJP did not stick to its promise of sharing the top post for an equal term with Shiv Sena in 2019. “What happened yesterday was our exact proposal in 2019 to BJP. Had BJP kept its word, the Maha Vikas Aghadi would never have happened, I would not be the chief minister. If they wanted to make a Shiv Sainik CM, why didn’t they agree then and what changed today?” said Thackeray, in his first public appearance after losing power in the state. Thackeray, who stepped down as CM two days ago, said if BJP thinks that by making Shinde the chief minister it can split Shiv Sainiks, they are mistaken.
