Maggie Gyllenhaal’s directional debut will premiere at the 2021 Venice Film Festival.
The 43-year-old actress and producer’s next drama, The Lost Daughter, based on Elena Ferrante’s novel of the same name, will be screened at the annual film festival in November this year and will go straight to Netflix.
The star-studded cast is led by Olivia Colman and Dakota Johnson.
Plot says, “Elegant college professor Leda (Colman) on a beach summer vacation is fascinated by Nina (Johnson) and her young daughter as they look at them on the beach. Their compelling Threatening relationships, and their noisy and large families, she was overwhelmed by her own fears, confusion, and memories of the intensity of her early motherhood, and brought unconventional choices as a young mother to her family. Forced to consider the consequences, she begins to unravel. In an unexplained way, she finds herself involved in the strange and sinister world of her heart. “
“Normal People” actor Paul Mescal will also star in Flick.
A 25-year-old star who commented on joining the movie when the casting was confirmed tweeted, “I’m a very excited boy!”
Maggie had previously confessed that he was nervous about steering the movie, but he felt he had to do it sooner rather than later.
She said in 2018: “I’m adapting Elena Ferrante’s novel, The Lost Daughter. In fact, I’ve just finished the second draft of adaptation. I’m still working on it, but I’m starting to think about it. I’m afraid of the way I think, but I think I have to do that. “
