Longmont politics – Longmont Times-Call

Letter writer showed his true colors

I am not one who writes letters to the editor, but I cannot let David Larison’s letter on Sunday, Nov. 7, go unaddressed. I am not writing this in defense of my husband, Gordon, as he needs no defender. But Mr. Larison’s opinion that a handful of Longmont people who work hard in these elections has the power to control how Longmont citizens vote is an insult to the good people of our fine city who pay attention, attend debates, think for themselves and then vote.

In a time of climate change I find it interesting that the worst thing Mr. Larison could say about Mayor-elect Peck is that she’s an environmentalist. The most disturbing thing Mr. Larison said was that Shiquita Yarbrough, our first black councilperson-elect, is not a good fit for Longmont. That statement is an insult to all of us.

Lastly, tying Tim Waters name to his letter was an insult to Tim. Mr. Waters ran a good and fair campaign and graciously conceded when he lost. He is not against environmentalism and would never say that Shiquita is not a fit for Longmont.

My husband, Mayor-elect Peck, Shiquita Yarbrough and Tim Waters do not need me to be their defender, but Mr. Larson has certainly shown us his true colors.
