South Jersey’s own Carli Lloyd will be one of the headliners at the 117th Philadelphia Sports Writers Association when it holds its annual banquet on May 2 at the DoubleTree by Hilton (formerly the Crowne Plaza) in Cherry Hill.
The dinner will be a celebration of all-time Philly sports greats, including Lloyd, a two-time FIFA World Cup champion, two-time Olympic Gold Medalist with the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team and a two-time FIFA Women’s Plyer of the Year. The Delran native retired in the fall, closing a 17-year career that included 316 international games.
Other Philadelphia sports greats scheduled to be on the dais will be former Eagles coach and NFL Hall of Famer Dick Vermeil, Flyers legend and Hockey Hall of Famer Mark Howe, and 76ers’ Doug Collins, who was the No. 1 overall pick in the 1973 NBA Draft and later coached the team in his career.
More area legends to be honored will be announced in the coming weeks.
Tickets are $95 and can be purchased online at phillysportswriters.com. A social hour will begin at 5 p.m. with doors to the main ballroom opening at 6 p.m.
