For the past 66 years, the town of Leesburg has hosted a Halloween Parade sponsored by the Leesburg Kiwanis Club and event organizers are seeking more donors to help keep the tradition going.
This annual event was led by Bob Wright for the past 20 years. Wright passed away unexpectedly in May.
“It was one of his favorite days of the year and he was very enthusiastic about it. He loved seeing kids young and old involved and as spectators,” said current Leesburg Kiwanis Club President Kim Thompson.
Taking over Wright’s duties, Thompson said, has been very difficult because he was so involved and detail oriented.
“He could tell you who everyone was by sight and name,” she said.
This year’s parade will be held in Wright’s honor. Along with his wife Suzanne, who is also a Kiwanian, they helped provide a safe and exciting way to celebrate the spirit of Halloween, Thompson said.
The Grand Marshall of the parade will be the Tuscarora High School Key Club, who works with the Kiwanis Club and helps organize the parade and service projects with local nonprofits.
The event is not a fundraiser for the organization; however, they do collect donations of nonperishable goods for Loudoun Hunger Relief.
Thompson is seeking more sponsors to join in the effort to keep the event going. For more information, visit leesburgkiwanis.org.
The parade will be held on Oct. 31 starting at 6 p.m. at Ida Lee Park. The parade route travels down North King Street through the historic district.
