What should I wear now that summer has come and I can go anywhere?
There are parties, vacations, weddings and, of course, work. And you’re ready to replace your sweat and leggings with something cute and fun.
Lancaster County women’s boutique owners say this summer’s style is simple and refreshing, a natural transition from comfort-focused clothing in 2020, colorful and celebrating a return to the outing.
According to local retailers, there are some outstanding trends from this summer’s fashion.
Day dress
Mary Shay of Lititz boutique Tiger’s Eye in Lancaster and Sara Tuscher of Pappagallo are both convinced that great dresses will be our first choice. Shay refers to Lunarus’s dress, which she feels represents everything she needs for a 2021 summer day dress. It’s easy and doesn’t get away from your body and cling to a hot day.
“In the summer of 2021, easy-to-wear daydresses are a sophisticated answer to changing clothes,” says Shay. “Especially after months of getting used to ultra-casual clothing. Loose silhouette dresses are great. Some have empire waists, others have no waist at all. In addition, cotton and Clothes cut with fabrics such as linen make hot summer days more tolerable. Go through looking for a casual dress, whether you’re heading to an outdoor brunch, a friend’s backyard hangout, or just the office. please.”
Tasher agrees that a laid-back daydress is the best investment in a summer closet.
“If you could only buy one this summer, it would be one of the simplest dresses that you could just slip in the morning and enjoy dinner and drinks with your friends on your way home from work. Sandals. The chameleon in the closet makes it easy to dress up and down. “
Number of colors
Tasher says color is an important factor in the summer of 2021.
“We are ready for color, structure, and a little fantasy,” she explains. “Our customers want something fresh and flattering to celebrate their return to normal. They are buying what they hadn’t bought before the pandemic. Heel shoes, white denim, wedding guest outfits, swimwear cover-ups, casual dresses, and lots of fun jewelry. “
Nicole Taylor, her boutique of the same name on Queen Street in Lancaster, agrees.
“Color is a very big fashion element this year,” she says.
The summer supply of her boutique proves her point. Vibrant graphics in primary colors, boho-style coral and turquoise in the southwest, the brightest yellows of beautiful pastel, florals and stripes, and, of course, lots of fascinating summer whites.
Comfort is the key
The fabrics for the summer of 2021 are heat-resistant style cotton, poplin, linen, linen and flax, Taylor says.
“We attach great importance to the comfort of this summer,” she explains. “It’s as if we weren’t completely overwhelmed by wearing such casual and comfortable clothes and spending all those months. Yes, we now have something cute and stylish. I want to wear it, but I also want comfort. I see it in A-line silhouettes, swirl pleats, and wide leg pants. Why those floating fabrics are refreshing even in dresses and tops with sleeves. It makes me feel like. “
Laughs saying that this summer’s clothes are very easy and convenient. casual.
“It’s as if the designers expected us all to put on extra weight during the pandemic,” says Taylor. “I know I have. I appreciate those simple clothes as well as my customers. My personal favorite this summer is the wide-legged jumpsuit. Comfortable and stylish . What is good? “

Pattern predominates
Tasher and Taylor are enthusiastic about the many patterns that are ready to brighten this summer. Some of them, such as tie-dye and bright floral patterns, slip back in time to the 70’s and 90’s, and of course, stripes have always been a summer staple. However, the latest stripes are bolder and brighter, with lines of all colors in the rainbow, sometimes reminiscent of our childhood fruit gum. They’re pretty punchy, so it’s best to wear them with something quiet. It’s a striped tunic, but wear it with denim jeans or black trousers.
Expressive plaids and watercolors are also trending. Checks are a worthy replacement for last year’s cute gingham TikTok and will appear on all types of clothing, from pants and skirts to tops and jackets. Watercolor prints are tie-dye artistic cousins with softer colored fields and spotted soft edges. They add romance to dresses and maxi skirts.
Then there’s a delicious rendering of everything from fruit prints and watermelons to kimono wraps, blouses and limes on frocks. Then paint a splash pattern that creates wearable art. And with all of its colors and patterns, consider making your summer shoes white sneakers to keep things simple with your shoes.
Work clothes
But what about the workplace? What do we wear there? You probably won’t paint spots or dazzling op art checks, but both Sarah Tascher and Nicole Taylor suspect we’ll be back in suit soon.
They also believe that a little comfort will carry the day.
“For women, I see a nice structured top and pants or skirt,” says Tasher. “Or that simple dress.”
