The lion was just one of the fantastical creatures spotted on the Schiaparelli runway. The line, founded in the ’20s by the avant-garde designer Elsa Schiaparelli, has long been known for its surrealist creations and trompe l’oeil creations, a tradition continued by its current creative director Daniel Roseberry.
Over the past few years, we’ve seen celebs like Rihanna and Doja Cat in designs from the line, as well as Kylie’s big sister Kim Kardashian, who wore a Hulk-style corset gown for the family Christmas party in 2020. For the Spring-Summer ’23 show, models (including Naomi Campbell!) stalked the runway in the animal kingdom’s finest, including a black faux fur coat with a wolf head at the shoulder. The animals looked super realistic, but don’t worry — each one was made of foam, not fur.
Kylie wasn’t the only attendee leaning into the dreamlike vibes of the show. Doja Cat skipped the animal gown in favor of covering her entire body, including her scalp and her eyelids (!!!) in bright crimson red Swarovski crystals (30K to be exact, all applied by hand) to match her strapless crimson beaded gown.
