John Fetterman’s fashion style has made the cut in NYT’s ‘most stylish’ people of 2022 list, leading to an awful lot of reaction on Twitter.
On Sunday, the New York Times released this year’s list of 93 best-dressed celebrities, sportspeople, politicians and social media influencers.
The list includes celebrities known for making bold fashion statements on the red carpet, including Rihanna, Bad Bunny, Lewis Hamilton, Emma Corrin and Timothée Chalamet.
But John Fetterman’s spot in the list appears to be the one raising eyebrows most on social media. Here’s why…

Pennsylvania senator-elect John Fetterman is bringing the “Carhartt to the Capitol” with his hooded sweatshirts, New York Times proclaims.
Fetterman has been listed among the most stylish people of 2022 alongside Keke Palmer, Lizzo, Martha Stewart, and the late Queen Elizabeth II.
The inclusion of Fetterman has confused many, however, as whether it’s a mid-term election or press conference, the politician usually opts to wear signature hoodies, basketball shorts and sneakers.
“The senator-elect from Pennsylvania is going to bring Carhartt to the Capitol,” NYT wrote, referencing the American workwear apparel company.
Fetterman is clearly happy about the publication’s fashion nod as he tweeted: “What a totally normal year it’s been for me.”
Fetterman’s nod sends Twitter users wild
The publication’s proclamation that Fetterman “is going to bring Carhartt to the Capitol” has sent many Twitter users into a frenzy.
One person wrote: “Gotta admit, John Fetterman has a style all his own. Not a good style, but he owns it.”
Another tweeted: “Apparently my farm hoodie was trend-setting and stylish.”
“Everyone’s talking about John Fetterman being named one of the stylish people of 2022,” someone else noted. “Read the article: stylish does not mean best dressed. It means they wear something that made us notice them. BIG difference!”
A fourth user tweeted: “Gonna need @carhartt to weigh in on John Fetterman making the @nytimes ‘most stylish’ list.”
John Fetterman’s wife and family
Fetterman is married to Brazilian-American activist and philanthropist Gisele Barreto Fetterman. She was born on February 27, 1982 in Rio de Janeiro and relocated to New York with her mother and brother when she was seven years old.
Gisele studied at the Institute For Integrative Nutrition in New York and became a US citizen in 2009. She later co-founded 412 Food Rescue, which tackles hunger by delivering surplus food to communities in need. Gisele is also co-founder of non-profit organization For Good PGH and founder of Free Store 15104.
Gisele and John met in 2007 after she wrote him a letter about the town and steel industry while he was mayor of Braddock. The couple tied the knot in 2008 and welcomed three children – Karl, Grace, and August. The Fetterman family live in a refurbished loft of a former car dealership in Braddock with their rescue dog Levi.
