Singer Jessie J has revealed that she has breast cancer.
The Grammy-nominated artist said she had been considering whether to share her news and she finally decided to do so.
“Knowing that the media are gonna make this way bigger than it needs to be, but also knowing that I want to share it with my fans and the people that care about me. And also I’m a sharer. I’ve always shared everything that I’ve ever gone through in my life,” Jessie J, whose real name is Jessica Cornish, said in a video posted on social media Tuesday. “Before ‘No Secrets’ come out, I was diagnosed with early stage breast cancer. I’m highlighting the word ‘early.’ Cancer sucks in any form, but I’m holding on to the word ‘early.'”
She joked, “It’s a very dramatic way to get a boob job,” pointing out that she released a song called “No Secrets” in April, then “Living My Best Life” in May.
“To get diagnosed with this, as I’m putting out a song called ‘No Secrets,’ right before putting out a song called ‘Living My Best Life,’ which was all pre-planned before I found out about this,” she said, “I mean, you can’t make it up.”
She said it “breaks my heart that so many people are going through so much. Similar and worse. That’s the bit that kills me.”
The singer explained that she plans to “disappear for a bit” after Summertime Ball at the U.K’s Wembley Stadium on June 15, so that she can have a surgery. The artist is set to appear alongside Mariah Carey, Will Smith and Jazzy Jeff, Benson Boone, Tate McRae, and others.

“I’m getting to keep my nipples. That’s good,” the singer said. “It’s a weird topic and a weird situation.”
Still, she promised to come back “with massive tits and more music.”
She explained that, yet another reason she wanted to share her diagnosis, is that it would be good for her.
“I just wanted to be open and share it,” Jessie J said. “One, because, selfishly, I do not talk about it enough. I’m not processing it, because I’m working so hard. I also know how much sharing has helped me in the past with other people giving me their love and support and all their own stories.”
She captioned the video, “No (more) Secrets and is it too soon to do a remix called ‘Living my breast life’?” and said that jokes were “one of the ways I get through hard times.” The last two months, she added, “have been so amazing, and having this go on along side it on the sidelines has given me the most incredible perspective.”
Still, she said, “Your girl needs a hug.”
In July, Jessie J was similarly upbeat when she shared that she’d been diagnosed with both OCD and ADHD.
She said she felt “it’s a superpower as long as you look at it from the right perspective and have the right support and people around you that can navigate it with you.”
