Jeremy Allen White is the Boss in first ‘Deliver Me From Nowhere’ footage

Jeremy Allen White was born to run at CinemaCon.

On Thursday, the actor and his costar Jeremy Strong were on hand to introduce the first footage from Deliver Me From Nowhere, which will debut later this year. The film stars White as Bruce Springsteen, following his efforts to write and produce 1982 album Nebraska, which emerged in the aftermath of recording Born in the U.S.A. with the E Street Band.

Describing the film, White said, “[this is a] pivotal moment in Bruce’s life struggling to reconcile the ghosts of his past culminating in his 1982 album.”

Strong appears as Springsteen’s longtime manager, Jon Landau. He described his character as “the Lewis to Bruce’s Clark,” adding, “the journey’s beautiful and unprecedented in the history of music.”

The first footage from the film showcased White as the Boss, both contemplative and playing guitar in more intimate settings and fully rocking out, soaked with sweat, on an arena stage. It also featured shots of Springsteen’s childhood and his mom and dad.

“This is not about the charts,” Strong’s Landau says in voiceover. “This is about Bruce Springsteen, and these are the songs he wants to work on. What he’s doing with this album is he’s repairing that hole in himself.”

Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart, Black Mass) wrote and directed the film, based on Warren Zanes’ 2023 book of the same name. “Beginning production on this film is an incredibly humbling and thrilling journey,” Cooper previously said in a press release. “Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska has profoundly shaped my artistic vision. The album’s raw, unvarnished portrayal of life’s trials and resilience resonates deeply with me.”

Cooper also said that his aim with the film is “bringing Warren Zanes’ compelling narrative of Bruce’s life to the screen with authenticity and hope, honoring Bruce’s legacy in a transformative cinematic experience.”

As for White, though it wasn’t addressed at CinemaCon, previous reports indicate he’ll be doing his own singing in the film — and he even received a blessing from the Boss himself. “He sings very well,” Springsteen previously told SiriusXM’s Jim Rotolo. “It’s a tremendous cast of people. They cast the film beautifully, so it’s very exciting. Jeremy is such a terrific actor that you just fall right into it. He’s got an interpretation of me that I think the fans will deeply recognize, and he’s just done a great job, so I’ve had a lot of fun being on the set when I can get there.”
