Save Our Shows 2021: Is your favorite series canceled, renewed or ‘on the bubble’?

Major broadcast networks are weighing the fates of 25 endangered sitcoms and dramas, hovering “on the bubble” between renewal and cancellation. USA TODAY’s 24th annual Save Our Shows poll asked you to weigh in on which you’d like saved – and which dropped – as the networks set their 2021-2022 schedules. The results are here.

Many factors go into renewal decisions, including Nielsen ratings, creative quality, profitability, digital viewership and program ownership.

The coronavirus pandemic, which shuttered production of pilot episodes for new series replacements last spring, remains a factor, but network executives say it’s less critical this year in determining the fate of series.

Instead, it may impact when (not if) they continue: NBC’s “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” was renewed last spring for what was planned as its final season. The pandemic prevented a return to production until this month, so 10 remaining episodes won’t air until August. And CW’s “Supernatural,” due to end in May 2020, delayed its final episodes until last fall.

CANCELED: “Clarice” (CBS, 1 season): “The Silence of the Lambs” sequel follows the personal story of FBI agent Clarice Starling (Rebecca Breeds) one year after her encounter with Hannibal Lecter.

CANCELED: “MacGyver” (CBS, 5 seasons): A young man (Lucas Till) with extraordinary problem solving skills creates a secret organization within the U.S. government to tackle high-risk missions and save lives in this remake of the 1985-92 series.

RENEWED: “S.W.A.T.” (CBS, 4 seasons): Shemar Moore stars as Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson, a S.W.A.T. sergeant who attempts to bridge the divide between his force and the Los Angeles community.

CANCELED: “The Unicorn” (CBS, 2 seasons): Walton Goggins plays a widower who struggles to re-enter the dating world while raising two daughters.

RENEWED: “United States of Al” (CBS, 1 season): This new sitcom from Chuck Lorre centers on the friendship between Riley (Parker Young), an ex-Marine attempting to adjust to life outside of the service, and his unit’s interpreter, Awalmir, aka Al (Adhir Kalyan), who joins him in the U.S.

RENEWED: “Call Me Kat” (Fox, 1 season): Mayim Bialik (“The Big Bang Theory”)  stars as Kat, a single woman who owns a cat-themed café.

CANCELED: “Prodigal Son” (Fox, 2 seasons): A criminal psychologist (Tom Payne) understands the minds of killers thanks to his father (Michael Sheen), a notorious serial killer known as “The Surgeon.”

RENEWED: “Kenan” (NBC, 1 season): The family comedy stars Kenan Thompson (“Saturday Night Live”) as a widowed Atlanta TV host balancing his career with fatherhood.

RENEWED: “Law & Order: Organized Crime” (NBC, 1 season): Christopher Meloni reprises his role as Detective Elliot Stabler, who returns to NYPD after suffering a personal loss in this latest entry in the three-decade franchise.

RENEWED: “Young Rock” (NBC, 1 season): The coming-of-age sitcom highlights Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s life in three different stages: as a kid living in Hawaii, a teen shoplifting designer goods in Pennsylvania (Bradley Constant) and a University of Miami football player.

CANCELED: “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist” (NBC, 2 seasons): Jane Levy stars as an intelligent woman with the ability to hear people’s innermost thoughts as songs in this musical drama, which won the 2020 Save Our Shows poll.

RENEWED: “Stargirl” (CW, 1 season): A new high school student (Brec Bassinger) becomes the DC superhero Stargirl after discovering a powerful weapon.

CANCELED: ‘The Moodys’ (Fox; 2 seasons): Denis Leary and Elizabeth Perkins star in this dysfunctional family comedy.
