Humane Society of Genesee County to benefit from Betty White Challenge
GENESEE COUNTY, Mich. (WJRT) – Gone too soon.
It was just a little over two weeks ago that the world said goodbye to TV icon Betty White.
On Monday, fans across the country are celebrating White on what would have been the 100th birthday for the American actress and comedian.
Each and every one can help make that celebration a little brighter by contributing to something that was very dear to White’s heart.
Who’s up for the challenge? Monday would have been TV Icon and animal lover Betty White’s 100th birthday. And what better way to honor her legacy than by taking part in the Betty White Challenge.
“We have people that are coming in, and they have been making donations. We’ve already been getting in a lot for today,” said Lin Holmes of the Humane Society of Genesee County.
It’s no secret White had a passion for animals. So on Monday, animal lovers and White fans across the country are showing their support by making a donation to local animal shelters and rescues.
“We can do heartworm treatment for some of the dogs that come in that are positive. We’re able to take care of skin issues with other dogs with this money, and then some of the other dogs and cats are on special foods, so it helps us pay for these foods that are really really expensive,” Holmes said.Â
She said that the Humane Society of Genesee County actually set up the Betty White Challenge fundraiser a little over a week ago. Since then, they’ve raised several thousand dollars and that amount only keeps going up, especially on a day like Monday.
“This woman was an advocate for so many years for the animals, and always always spoke out about them and how important it was to help out when you could.”
