With contributions from four different goal-scorers on Thursday, the Fayetteville-Manlius field hockey team won for the second time in as many days to clinch first place in their season-opening tournament. The Hornets eked out a 1-0 decision over Cazenovia on Wednesday and defeated East Syracuse Minoa 4-1 in the championship game after a quick turnaround.
Ella Sanders, Carlye Bryant, Carine Smith and Nora Wilson all tallied goals for F-M, while Wilson and Ella Herber pitched in with an assist apiece. Kaleigh Hamilton recorded two saves in the title game.
In the loss, Marisa Cain scored for the Spartans off an assist from Reiley Murphy. Maura Leib was strong in the cage for ESM, notching 18 saves.
Up next for the Hornets will be a bout with Whitesboro at 5 p.m. on Sept. 10, while the Spartans will look to recover when they dance with Canastota at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday.

Cazenovia 3, Cortland 1
In the consolation match, the Lakers evened their mark at 1-1 with a victory over the Tigers. Nadia Segal, Sammy Sparks and Hadley Schug found the back of the cage for Cazenovia, while Jadyn Beams scored for Cortland.
Girls volleyball
Marcellus 3, Jamesville-DeWitt 0
The Mustangs began the fall with a sweep of the visiting Red Rams, 25-16, 25-13, 25-12. With the loss, J-D falls to 1-1.
Jenna Mattison recorded a match-high 15 assists and four aces for Marcellus, while teammate Elaine Grattan led all players with 12 digs and added three aces as well. Sophia Ferris led the Red Rams in digs (nine), kills (five) and aces (two), and Cadence Milligan contributed a team-best eight assists and eight digs as well.
Boys golf
Oswego 188, Cortland 198
Despite a round-low 34 from Tigers junior Andrew Partigianoni, the Buccaneers grabbed a close win to move to 2-1. Oswego was led by Jack O’Leary and Kevin Waters, who carded a 36 and 37 respectively.
