The St. Joseph Hill girls’ tennis team celebrated its Senior Day with a 3-2 victory over Notre Dame Academy.
The Hilltoppers improved to 8-5 with the win. NDA came prepared to play and nearly spoiled the occasion as the Gators’ Antoinette Mattarelliano outlasted Anika Thakkar (1-6, 6-3, 10-7). NDA’s Ava Manzella staked a 2-0 lead with an impressive straight sets triumph over Hill’s Erin Aversa.
But Hill’s depth proved pivotal when the doubles tandems of Emily Vitulli/Sophia Romeo and Victoria D’Agostino/Guiliana Westgate evened the score at 2-2. In the final match, Hill’s Grace Fanizza outdueled Marissa Tedesco in a competitive 6-4, 6-1 victory.
