Home show offers variety of exhibits, entertainment | News

Fun for the whole family is on tap for this weekend’s Home, Garden, Lifestyle and Outdoors Show on Saturday and Sunday at the Bedford County Fairgrounds.

While hunters are looking forward to the new outdoors themed features of the expanded show, many aspects of the Chamber’s traditional home show are still in place, including opportunities to meet with local experts on home improvement projects and outdoor living updates.

West Central Equipment will offer a John Deere exhibit with tractors and recreational vehicles and show-goers will also enjoy the Stoneham’s Motorsports UTV display.

As summer begins to fade into fall, home heating plans come to mind. Bedford Valley Petroleum, under new ownership in Stuck Enterprises, is the featured “Home” sponsor of the show; President Steve Stuck looks forward to getting to know existing and new customers this weekend and in the coming months.

“The acquisition of Bedford Valley Petroleum’s four operating plants is a perfect complement to our existing business and allows us to appreciably add to our geographic area of service,” said Stuck. “We are a company that prides ourselves in providing 24/7 service to our customers and we have a great team of employees that truly care about our customers.”

In addition to Bedford Valley Petroleum services, the company will also have a booth that features their Deep Creek Fireplace & Outdoor Store, showcasing varieties of fireplaces, outdoor kitchens, grills, and more. Stop by their booth and register to win $500 of free propane/heating oil/diesel fuel or gasoline.

While meeting and greeting dozens of exhibitors, guests of the HGLO show will also be treated to food by Hostetler Concessions, and live entertainment on the State Farm Stage, sponsored by insurance agents Matt Randall and Michael Meehan.

“Both Mike and my offices love participating in local events and since day-one it was always a goal to be out in the community,” said Matt Randall. “For most people their home is their most valuable asset; and they give blood, sweat, and tears in maintaining it. The home show gives us a great opportunity to talk to individuals about how best to protect it.”

Saturday’s entertainment begins at noon with music by Brandi Naugle; John Topper will take the stage at 1 p.m. Those who attend the Drive-In movie “Beauty and the Beast,” Saturday evening will be treated to a pre-show performance by the Cove Community Theater Show Choir, including some Disney selections. Sunday’s schedule features the Horseshoe Cloggers at noon.

Children will enjoy activities provided by Hyndman and Bedford Family Health Centers, including a wheel of fortune, raffle drawing for an iPad, and the unveiling of their new mascot as well as the chance to help name the friendly bee.

The Bedford and Hyndman Family Health Centers feel that it’s very important to network within our community and to have a mobile outreach program,” said CEO Bill Kurtycz. “We want to help educate the community on topics of medical and dental health, and especially how important wellness is to the quality of life. That begins with healthy habits which grow from children to adults.”

Just in time for back-to-school, Thomas Dealerships is partnering with the Chamber Foundation and the Bedford Backpack program to collect food provisions for students facing food insecurity. A donation station near the Thomas booth inside Jordan Hall will be a drop-off point for shelf-stable, single-serving, microwavable or cold foods like oatmeal, ramen, mac & cheese, fruit cups, Chef Boyardee, Hormel Completes and applesauce.

And for those in the community working on summertime home clean-ups, Weaver’s Sanitation will offer free metal collection/recycling throughout the show hours in their roll-off behind Jordan Hall. Weaver’s will accept appliances (except for dishwashers), and scrap metal. Visit the Chamber welcome booth inside the hall if you need assistance unloading.

Admission to the Home, Garden, Lifestyle and Outdoors Show is free, along with all the educational programs and entertainment. The show is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
