Baylor will put its nation-leading 15-game win streak on the line as the nation’s fourth No. 1 team in the last four weeks when it faces Oregon on Saturday. Also in Top 25 action, Duke returns from a two-week hiatus following its loss to Ohio State to face South Carolina State, Appalachian State and Cleveland State in a span of eight days.
UNDATED (AP) — Oregon has introduced Dan Lanning as its new head football coach. The Ducks hired Lanning from Georgia, where he had been the defensive coordinator. He replaces Mario Cristobal, who went last week to Miami. The 35-year-old will be a first-time head coach after spending the last four years at Georgia, the previous three leading one of the best defenses in the country.
UNDATED (AP) — Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young and Alabama teammates Will Anderson Jr. and Jameson Williams have been selected All-Americans by The Associated Press. That gives the top-ranked Crimson Tide more players on the first team than any other school. The AP All-America team was selected by a panel of Top 25 college football poll voters. The Tide will bring five All-American honorees into their playoff game against No. 4 Cincinnati on New Year’s Eve. Cincinnati is represented on the first team by cornerback Ahmad Gardner. No. 2 Michigan placed two players on the first team, including Heisman runner-up Aidan Hutchinson.
UNDATED (AP) — Baylor took advantage of Purdue’s last-second loss to Rutgers to become the fourth different team at No. 1 in the past four weeks in the AP 25. The Bears earned every vote from the 61-member national media panel Monday to reach the top spot in the poll for the first time since a four-week run ended on Feb. 17, 2020. The Bears were followed by former No. 1s Duke and Purdue along with UCLA and Gonzaga. Xavier, Colorado State and Texas Tech joined the poll while Florida, BYU and Wisconsin dropped out.
UNDATED (AP) — UConn has dropped to seventh in the women’s AP Top 25, its lowest ranking since 2007. South Carolina remained the unanimous top choice after holding off Maryland over the weekend. The Gamecocks have now beaten four teams that were ranked in the top 10 this season. The Gamecocks visit No. 15 Duke on Wednesday. N.C. State was again second in the poll, followed by Stanford, Arizona and Baylor. Georgia Tech, which beat UConn last week, is back in the poll at No. 18. North Carolina also entered at No. 25, its first ranking since 2015.
