Today it is difficult to surprise an ordinary user with a new smartphone, set-top box or other device. After all, relatively recently we were surprised at any new invention. Now we just have to remember with trepidation the technologies that really amazed us a few decades ago.

In the era of smartwatches, the Montana model does not seem to be something extraordinary. However, in the 90s, every student dreamed of her. After all, at that time the model looked stylish and surpassed domestic analogues in terms of a set of functions: an alarm clock, a stopwatch, a backlight and

The watch is still made in China, but its former glory cannot be returned: now only fashionistas, collectors and fans of vintage wear them.

Twenty years later, the Nokia 3310 is still the Finnish brand’s most popular phone. Since 2000, about 126 million copies have been sold. There were no frills on the functional side: a black-and-white display, monophonic melodies, a log for incoming and outgoing calls.

Of the pluses – the phone supported the game “snake”. However, the main feature was in strength. The durability of the device was legendary. In many ways, it was because of the 3310 that similar models were popularly called “nut crackers”.

The game of Tetris is known all over the world thanks to the GameBoy console. However, in the 90s, its Chinese counterpart was more popular in our country – Brick Game – a portable gadget with games: snake, arkanoid, racing and, of course, Tetris.

Tetris is the best selling game in the world. The GameBoy alone sold 35 million copies. And it’s official, not to mention the Chinese Brick Game. And in 2007, Tetris was named one of the ten most important computer games accepted for preservation by the Library of Congress.

Tamagotchi is a legend of the 90s, a simulator for caring for a virtual friend. The owner was required to feed, water, put to bed and do everything possible so that the Tamagotchi did not die. The hobby became so rampant that many skipped classes to feed a virtual friend. And the death of a pet became a tragedy.

The iPod has been Apple’s star since before the iPhone and iPad. The idea was simple: 1,000 digital songs in a device the size of a deck of cards. The secret was to install a small hard drive instead of the flash memory that competitors used.

And it worked! One of the most popular iPods was the Classic, the holy grail among music lovers of the time. Inside – a 160 GB hard drive, outside – a navigation wheel, with which you could quickly switch between tracks.
