A woman ended up being kicked off a plane in Vietnam after allegedly demanding to be seated next to her partner following a heated argument in the airport.
The incident occurred on Sunday, Nov. 2, on the Hong Kong budget airline HK Express’ flight UO559, which had been heading from Da Nang International Airport to Hong Kong International Airport, Hong Kong outlets including the South China Morning Post and The Standard reported.
According to flight tracking website Flightradar24, the plane had been scheduled to depart at 6:30 p.m. local time, but ended up leaving at 8:10 p.m., before landing in Hong Kong at 10:36 p.m.
In video footage shared by Viral Press, the woman could be seen crying in the aisle while arguing with flight attendants in a clip, before she allegedly pushed one crew member as others tried to restrain her, per the Associated Press.
A crew member warned the passenger that if she didn’t calm down, she would not be allowed to remain on the flight, the news agency stated. She briefly settled down before allegedly getting aggressive again and pushing the flight attendant a second time.
The incident occurred after the woman was seen yelling at her partner as they waited to board the flight, alleging that he’d been unfaithful, per Viral Press.
She also claimed that he’d previously assaulted her last month, stating he’d struck her 40 times, alleging that a hospital had records of it, according to The Standard.
The couple then boarded the Airbus A320, and were seated in separate rows, before the woman got emotional and demanded to be moved next to her partner, Viral Press stated. She was informed by crew members that seating had been assigned and could not be changed, which made her more agitated.
The woman and her partner were eventually removed from the plane, and it took off, before landing 71 minutes behind schedule.
The airline has since apologized for any inconvenience, insisting passenger and crew safety were its top priority, per The Standard. It also praised staff for handling the situation calmly, as well as thanking passengers for their patience.
HK Express didn’t immediately respond when contacted by PEOPLE for comment.
