G-III Apparel Group Ltd. on Thursday said it agreed to buy European luxury fashion brand Sonia Rykiel for an undisclosed amount.
The New York apparel company, which owns such brands as DKNY and Donna Karan and holds licenses to the Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger and Karl Lagerfeld Paris brands, said it plans to accelerate the relaunch of the Sonia Rykiel brand primarily in Europe for the fall of 2022.
French fashion designer Sonia Rykiel, whose sophisticated, playful designs and colorful knitwear helped redefine Left Bank luxury in the 1970s and ’80s, died in 2016, and her fashion house went into receivership and liquidation in 2019.
Brothers Eric and Michael Dayan later acquired the fashion house with plans to revive the brand.
G-III said it expects to complete the acquisition by the end of October.
