Orono, Maine — Four University of Maine programs have been crowned America East Sport GPA Champions for the 2021-22 season, as announced by the league on Wednesday, June 29.
Women’s basketball, which also earned the America East regular season championship on the court, led its sport with a 3.74 GPA. Men’s cross country (3.60), field hockey (3.43), and women’s swimming and diving (3.65) each also captured their respective sport GPA titles for the 2021-22 season.
In total, the Black Bears finished tied for fifth in the 2021-22 Walter Harrison Academic Cup with an institutional GPA of 3.36. New Hampshire and Hartford were the co-winners of the 2021-22 Walter Harrison Academic Cup with institutional GPAs of 3.42. The Black Bears have won the Academic Cup three times, including last season.
In 2021-22, the America East student-athletes averaged a 3.31 GPA overall, the second-highest in conference history. All 10 America East institutions averaged better than a 3.10 GPA in 2021-22. This marks the 17th consecutive year in which America East student-athletes have averaged better than a 3.0 GPA.
