Forum on Reno’s affordable housing. Speaker from Jacobs Entertainment

Reno has one of the most severe affordable housing shortages in the nation. Only 326 subsidized housing units have been built in Reno during the last six years, an amount that failed to keep pace with growth.

A recent ProPublica investigation co-published by the Reno Gazette Journal revealed that Reno has no policy to deter demolition of affordable housing, nor requirements to replace lost units. Once such housing is gone, it often stays gone.

Join ProPublica reporter Anjeanette Damon as she moderates a community conversation on the future of affordable housing in Reno. In partnership with Reno Gazette Journal and Nevada Humanities, this program includes a panel of key local stakeholders gives residents an opportunity to ask panelists questions.

Speakers include:

  • Christine Hess, Executive Director, Nevada Housing Coalition
  • Dane C. Hillyard, Principal, Co-Founder, Greenstreet Development
  • Devon T. Reese, At-Large Reno City Council member
  • Lilith Baran, Program Assistant, ACLU of Nevada
  • Wendy Wiglesworth, Outreach Director, Reno Initiative for Shelter and Equality (RISE)
  • Garrett Gordon, Jacobs Entertainment

The forum, located at the Downtown Reno Library, begins at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 11.
