Students enrolled in the weeklong event were high school seniors from the New York Metro area and from other parts of the U.S, including two from Florida (including IMG Academy). Speakers included industry executives from the USTA, the Washington Commanders, WFAN, CBS Sports, WFUV Sports, Fordham Athletics, Skyline Conference Commissioner Linda Bruno; sports media personality and former NY Rangers Tom Laidlaw, and the dean of Associated Press NFL sportswriters, Barry Wilner.

Fordham Athletics is an initial partner with SBI. “We are excited about this partnership, and this was just a tremendous event for the students to come and visit our campus and to learn from these fine industry executives,” said Anthony Davidson, the dean of the School of Professional and Continuing Studies at Fordham University.

“We are absolutely thrilled with this event”, said SBI Executive Director Dave Torromeo. “The quality of these students was amazing. They were totally engaged asking pertinent questions as they soaked in career tips from the best of the best in the industry.”

This program is one of several and was established for high school students interested in pursuing a collegiate career that would lead to a job in sports. The four-day event covered a wide range of topics and perspectives shared by industry leaders, educators, directors, and other influencers in the sports world.

Highlights included a panel of Athletic Directors including Fordham Athletic Director Ed Kull, who shared insights into various challenges of being a collegiate student-athlete and their roles dealing with Title IX, NIL, and the student-athlete experience as a whole.

“It was a great experience to be a part of SBI’s career camp,” said Ed Kull. “The students were engaging and interactive and it was an honor to be included and share the stage with my industry colleagues. I am looking forward to working even more with SBI in the future.”

The program culminated with a tour and visit hosted by ANC Sports (Learfield/IMG), a worldwide leader in video and LED signage and marketing, and all students were presented with a certificate by Fordham University and SBI.

Former New York Ranger, True Grit author, podcaster and Survivor contestant Tom Laidlaw was a keynote luncheon speaker. WFAN host, Rick Wolff shared his expertise on youth sports and sports psychology.

Other highlights included longtime industry media executive Len DeLuca, and media personalities such as WFUV’s Bobby Ciafardini and Rob Adams.
