TOYA: SEVERAL LOCAL DESIGNERS ARE BRINGING THEIR TALENTS TO CENTER STAGE. 12 NEWS’ GABRIELLA GARZA CAUGHT UP WITH ONE DESIGNER PUTTING THE FINAL TOUCHES ON HER COLLECTION AHEAD OF TOMORROW’S FASHION FEST. GABRIELLA: FOR NEARLY 13 YEARS, DEBORAH RENDER HAS BEEN CREATING AND DESIGNING ORIGINAL PIECES ARE WORK ON MILWAUKEE’S WESTSIDE, BUT A FASHION SHOW ON SEPTEMBER 10 WILL BRING HER DESIGNS TO A NEW STAGE. Fashion designers from across Milwaukee prepare for the first annual Fashion Fest MKE in Bayshore

The first annual Fashion Fest MKE is highlighting local fashion designers, vendors and businesses. For nearly 13 years, Deborah Render, of GG’s Creations, has been designing and sell her work on Milwaukee’s west side.Render remembers spending hours designing dresses for her Barbie dolls, using whatever material she could find. “Back then, all the Barbie dolls clothing looked the same, but my clothes couldn’t look like the rest of them, so I would tear up my moms curtains and stuff and dress my dolls,” Render said.Render told WISN 12 News she’s so grateful to participate in this event.”It’s hard for independent designers; we aren’t way out there yet but we are working on it,” said Render. This event was created as a platform for Wisconsin designers and artists to showcase their creativity and original work. Fashion Fest MKE is a free, family-friendly event, happening from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at The Yard at Bayshore, 5800 N. Bayshore Drive. There will be fashion shows at 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.There will be a children’s design area featuring jewelry making, mini apparel creation, and fashion illustration.
