Ex-Bank CEO Heads South Africa Team to Negotiate Climate Finance

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa appointed Daniel Mminele, a former central banker and bank chief executive officer, as head of the Presidential Climate Finance Task Team.

Mminele will lead the nation’s efforts to mobilize finances for a so-called just energy transition, the presidency said in a statement on Tuesday. The U.S., U.K., Germany, France and the European Union in November offered South Africa $8.5 billion in concessional loans and grants to help the country’s transition from coal-fired power production to renewable energy.
