The Fort Dodge baseball team has found a rhythm here down the stretch of the regular season.
On Tuesday night, the Dodgers capped things off with a 10-7 victory over Carroll, finishing off a 10-2 run as they head into the postseason.
Triston Bockoven was 3-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored, Christian Davidson and Carson Peterson each drove in two, and Fort Dodge gave Peterson and Sawyer Springer plenty of run support early.
Slade Sibenaller hit a two-run homer in the first, but the Dodgers answered with eight in the bottom half of the inning to gain control.
“I was proud of our guys,” FDSH head coach Blake Utley said. “Carroll comes out and hits a bomb to get on the board, but we focused and came right back. We let them get back in it there as the night progressed, but we were able to finish the job when we needed to.”
Sibenaller, who added another homer, was 2-for-2 with five RBI and drew two walks. Ty Nissen, the son of Fort Dodge Senior High graduate Lance Nissen, scored three times for the Tigers.
Peterson got the start, going four innings and striking out five. Springer came on and finished the game, allowing just one hit over three innings with a walk.
“If that was the last time Sawyer gets to play at Ed McNeil Field, he went out with a great showing,” Utley said. “We’ve come on here down the stretch and have figured some of the things out that were hurting us early on.
“Now, we get two days to prepare for the playoffs.”
Drake Callon was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI, Dylan Zimmermann had a hit, scored a run and drove in another, and both Eli Elsbecker and Connor Carver had an RBI.
Jace Ulrich and Jerry Chada each scored a run for the Dodgers.
Fort Dodge is 9-1 over its last 10, with the lone loss coming to Class 3A Top-10 Webster City. They are 10-2 since an eight-game losing skid during the latter stages of June.
Up first for the Dodgers will be rival Mason City this Friday night in a 4A, Substate 2 contest. The Mohawks took three of four from Fort Dodge during the regular season, with FDSH claiming the final game of the series.
