DJI Expands Into Smart Home Market With Romo 2 Robot Vacuum Series

DJI, a global leader in drone technology, has officially launched the Romo 2 series, marking a significant expansion into the smart home appliance sector. This new lineup, consisting of the Romo P2 and Romo A2, leverages DJI’s expertise in autonomous navigation and artificial intelligence to offer a high-performance cleaning solution.

Advanced Navigation and AI Integration

According to GizmoChina, the Romo 2 series utilizes a sophisticated navigation system derived from DJI’s drone hardware. By combining laser radar, fisheye lenses, and Time-of-Flight (ToF) sensors, the vacuum can navigate complex environments and avoid obstacles with high precision. This system eliminates the need for users to prep rooms before cleaning. Additionally, the devices feature a dedicated lighting system to detect debris in low-light conditions, similar to high-end vertical vacuums.

Powerful Suction and Cleaning Hardware

The series is engineered for deep cleaning, boasting an industry-leading suction power of up to 36,000 Pa. Key hardware features include:

  • Adaptive Robotic Arm: An extendable arm that reaches up to 123 degrees, allowing the brushes to clean corners and edges with a 4.5 cm reach advantage over previous designs.
  • Surface Detection: The AI automatically identifies carpets to increase suction or detects liquids to optimize mopping modes.
  • Obstacle Clearance: The units can climb over thresholds up to 8.5 cm high.
  • Anti-Tangle System: Brushes are designed to prevent hair and fur wrap, reducing manual maintenance.

Automated Maintenance and Pricing

The Romo 2 base station provides a fully automated experience, including high-temperature self-cleaning, hot air drying, UV sterilization, and waste management. The devices also support 55W fast charging, voice control, and real-time dirt mapping via a dedicated app.

The series is currently available in China in four configurations:

  • Romo A2: Starts at 5,499 yuan (~$762), reaching 5,999 yuan (~$831) for the advanced version.
  • Romo P2: Starts at 5,999 yuan (~$831), with the premium base station model priced at 6,499 yuan (~$900).
