Coronavirus cases are falling in much of Europe, with some exceptions, according to the FT’s Covid-19 tracker.
Infections are declining in France and Spain after recent peaks.
Spain recorded an average of 13.9 new daily cases per 100,000 people in the week to September 4, down from a high of 57.9 cases in the week to July 19.
In France, cases are also falling following a surge in the middle of July. The latest spike peaked at 35.3 average cases per 100,000 people in the week to August 16, and fell to 20.4 cases in the week to September 4.
Caseloads across the EU have begun to plateau and sit at 11.7 cases per 100,000 people.
However the UK and Germany are exceptions to the trend, with cases rising in both countries.
The UK reported an average 52.5 new daily cases of Covid-19 per 100,000 people in the week to September 4, up from 39.1 at the beginning of August.
Last week, the Zoe Covid study, which uses an app to track infections, said cases would rise in the UK without restrictions.
Infections are rising in Germany too, but from a lower starting point. Germany reported 12.3 new infections per 100,000 people in the week to September 3, up from 0.7 average cases at the end of June.
