JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested four foreigners and 59 locals for drug abuse at an entertainment centre near the city centre, here.
Johor police chief Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said all 63 were arrested during a raid by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) to the premises at 2am on Saturday (Nov 12).
“Initial investigations revealed that the premises had operated beyond the allowed operating hours of 12am.
“To attract more customers, the premise owners have also organised a lucky draw where the ticket is sold for RM60 each through its social media page,” he said in a statement on Sunday (Nov 13).
The police then inspected 567 individuals who were partying at the premises and found 62 people who tested positive for drugs.
“They are made up of 43 men and 19 women ranging in age from 16 to 58.”
“We have also arrested a woman, aged 32, who claims to be the premise manager,” he said, adding that all of the suspects are currently under remand to help with investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for consuming drugs, which carries up to two years in jail or a fine of not more than RM5,000.
It is also being investigated under Section 11(2) of the Johor Places of Entertainment Enactment for operating an entertainment centre beyond the allowed time, which carries a fine of not more than RM50,000, imprisonment of not more than five years, or both.
