COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) -The city of College Station has always worked to bring new businesses, sporting events and restaurants to the area, now they’re focusing on the entertainment industry. Several attractions and family-friendly businesses are set to open this fall.
City of College Station Economic Development Director Aubrey Nettles says entertainment is important to both residents and visitors, so the city wants to do everything they can to attract the businesses everyone desires.
College Station’s economic development has been recruiting all of these types of businesses for a while. Now we know that entertainment is important to our residents and to our visitors. We don’t want people to feel like they have to leave the community to find a variety of entertainment options. We want them to feel like they have everything they need here in College Station,” said Nettles.
Stone Co Climbing is one of the new attractions set to open this fall. The venue will offer rock climbing, yoga, fitness classes and will house a gym. CEO and Co-Owner John Pritchard, a former Aggie, says he wanted to bring a business to the area that would serve the purpose of the community and family.
“It’s primarily an indoor rock climbing facility. It’s 12,000 square feet. We’ll have 6,000 square feet of climbing surface, but the amenities include climbing also yoga, and also a regular gym in there as well, weightlifting and fitness. So we’ll have all those combined. We’ll also have a seating area where you can sit and have coffee or do work on your laptop or just come with your family and watch them climb while you’re working,” said Pritchard.
A miniature golf course called Kraken’s Revenge and Pinspiration, a craft studio are also set to open this fall.
“Another one is a new mini-golf facility that is opening up near Olive Garden on highway six, called Kraken’s Revenge. That facility is being built by a really great developer who builds different amenities for cruise ships and has a really fantastic concept that he’s doing out there, and they plan to open this fall. So that will be another great amenity for both visitors and citizens alike,” said Nettles. “Then we have Pinspiration opening at the Yard at Caprock this fall as well. That is going to be a really fantastic art gallery for people to have get-togethers and parties to create a variety of things in which you can create. You can create a variety of decor and amenities for your home. They have a splatter room, and so it’s very fun for kids and adults. You can host parties. You can host training and groups for your work as well.”
Nettles says the city is working on attracting larger entertainment options as well.
“We’re talking to all of the national entertainment groups. So any of the ones that you visited that you’ve heard of, like the Main Events, the Dave and Buster’s we’re talking to,” said Nettles.
Derick Beddinger, Owner of Tiny Town Studios and developer of the Kraken’s Revenge Miniature Golf Course, says he is excited about opening in Aggieland.
“We are a full-service local theming company that has done projects for the Four Seasons, Vanilla Ice Project, Royal Caribbean, Michael Jackson’s Neverland Ranch, professional athletes, actors, and great families around the country. We decided to do a project of our own here locally since we build miniature golf courses as well in our theming company, and College Station needs more family-friendly fun outings,” said Beddinger.
