Coach’s New Line Is a Love Letter to American Craftsmanship

Celebrating American craftsmanship, Coach has released a new limited-edition collection called American Craft: an assortment of one-of-a-kind Tabby bags created in collaboration with artisans from across the United States.

The capsule brings together A Cut Above Buckles by Andy Andrews from Utah, Bo Hubbard from Brooklyn, Luke Haynes, and Rocketbuster Handmade Custom Boots by Nevena Christi, both based in Texas. Each artisan contributed their own techniques to the iconic silhouette through hand-tooled leather, quilting, embroidery, and other handmade details.

Ranging from $2,995 to $4,995, the line is available to shop now on Coach’s website. For the launch, we spoke with each artisan about partnering with Coach, what celebrating American craftsmanship means to them, and the process behind their design. Ahead, see their one-of-a-kind pieces and what they had to say.

“I left New York almost 30 years ago to take the helm at Rocketbuster and build handmade custom boots. Coach asking me to team up for the American Craft collaboration means a lot. My design life is coming full circle. I am an obsessive maker of many things. I have a love of detail and technique, and am always striving to create my dreams and my customers wishes. I like to think that there are no boundaries to the possibilities. When we get stumped it’s just because we haven’t figured it out yet. Working with Coach was a great experience. Lately we have been exploring the natural world on many of our boots, creating wildflowers, butterflies and insects in intricate inlay overlay patterns. Adapting our latest love to the pattern of the Coach tabby bag was tricky but so rewarding. Meeting and working with their team was a lot of fun. My customers have been communicating with me about their new bags and I know I’m going to be smiling about this one for a long time.” — Nevena Christi, Rocketbuster Handmade Custom Boots

“Teaming up with Coach feels incredibly meaningful because craftsmanship has always been at the center of my work. I’ve spent more than 20 years working with textiles, exploring how material, construction, labor, and tradition can carry a story. I’m especially interested in taking familiar materials and techniques and pushing them into a contemporary context. Coach has its own deep history of American craftsmanship, so being invited to bring my perspective into that legacy feels both exciting and deeply aligned with my practice. I love the idea that craftsmanship is not something static or nostalgic. It is alive. It evolves through the hands of the people making things now. For me, this collaboration is a celebration of that continuum: honoring skill, material, and tradition while also asking what American craft can look like today.

The piece took approximately 18 months from the initial design process through final construction. My process is very hands-on and iterative, so a significant part of that time was spent responding to the materials themselves. I develop the composition, cut and arrange the textiles, make adjustments, and continue refining the work as it comes together. Even with a clear initial concept, there is always a conversation between the design and the physical making. That process of building, editing, and resolving the piece is a huge part of the work for me and the team at Coach, and it is where the final piece really finds its identity. I am so excited about the final piece after it went through the hands of the makers at Coach to finish all the details and add the hardware.” — Luke Haynes
