Blake Lively Shares Her Real Opinions About Y2K Fashion

Following pressure from Millie Bobby Brown’s fans, Hunter Echo has erased his social media presence.

Like it or not, the ’00s are back baby! Thanks to Gen Z stars like Olivia Rodrigo and Millie Bobby Brown (and basically the entire TikTok app) people are pulling on their crop tops, breaking out the butterfly clips, and partying like it’s several years after 1999.

One fashion icon who led the way in the Y2K era is OG ‘Gossip Girl’ actress Blake Lively. She might be better known these days for her meme-able marriage to Ryan Reynolds and her kids’ connections to Taylor Swift, but Blake hasn’t forgotten her roots- or how funny they actually were.

Here’s what she just shared about early ’00s fashion.

The Accessorizing Was Out of Control

Blake’s IG Stories today are full of content creator Carly Quilino (aka @fashiongirl42069)’s TikTok clips about Y2K style. In the first that she shares, Blake writes “Y2K fashion ??!  this is why…@carlyquilino I have never felt more seen.”

In the part of the vid Blake posted, Carly is explaining how extremely and arbitrarily over-accessorized every ’00s It Girl actually was- and that if we’re going to go all in with the y2K fashion comeback, we’re all missing some pretty key elements.

“I absolutely love that Y2K style is coming back but there is some cherry picking going on and I think that we need to have an open discussion about it,” Carly explains. “Because when I think about Y2K, I don’t think crop tops and halter tops and low rise jeans only, I think about, I think about how we really wore every accessory at the same time…”

Blake also shared a scrolling screen capture of her own phone as she swiped through red carpet photos of HERSELF in hilariously era-specific ‘000s clothes.

She used a gif of checkmarks to check off all the trends she was hitting in the Y2K- especially what Carly explained about the ‘no reason’ belt trend.

“One of the biggest accessories, most popular accessories at the time were these comically large belts that we wore for no reason,” Carly says in that TikTok above. “We wore these for no reason. Every day. The outfit no matter what you were wearing like you wore the belt. YOU WORE THE BELT.”

Blake’s a Fan of the Throwback

It’s not the first time Blake shared footage of her old self on her socials, and we really hope it’s not the last. Check out that ipic of her with the original ‘Gossip Girl’ cast and this one with her own high school cheerleading friends:

In terms of fashion, it seems like Blake prefers looking forward, though.
