Black Label Comic-Con will return to Philadelphia for its second year on August 14, 2021. The Westin Hotel will take place in downtown Philadelphia. The Black Label Comic-Con was created by novelist Eric Cooper from Trenton. Cooper has been writing for over 20 years and has produced four novel series: Nightseeker, Merge, Star Enforcer, and Greenville Triangle. All his novels take place in the same universe as his “Nightseeker” series.

The Black Label Comic Con is one of the few conventions owned and operated by Black in the country and one of the few comic conventions in Philadelphia. Eric Cooper, CEO of Black Label Comic, wanted to launch the Black Label Comic Con to highlight creatives that wouldn’t get the same attention at other large conventions.

Cooper is a great place to host a black-owned comic convention because Philadelphia has a large black population, is easily accessible by transportation because it is a big city, and is a black creative living in the Philadelphia region. Claims to be a great place.

One of the premier guests attended was Philadelphia-based illustrator Phoe-nix Nebula. Nebula has worked with Cooper on several projects, including the latest project, The Greenville Triangle, a graphic novel based on “Black Wall Street” in Tulsa, Oklahoma, before being bombed by white supremacists in 1921. I did. Another guest, Shawn Alleyne, is a freelance artist, writer, designer, publisher, and teacher living in Philadelphia. He is a self-taught artist who combines elements of science fiction, mythology, Caribbean roots and love for hip-hop into art. Alleyne will also participate. He is responsible for his own design company, Pyroglyphics Studio. Ariell Johnson, owner of Amalgam Comics and Coffeehouse in the Kensington area of ​​Philadelphia, is looking forward to another guest patron. In 2015, Johnson headlined as the first black woman to open her comic bookstore on the East Coast.

Cooper was excited to announce that Scott Hanna had also signed on to appear on the Black Label Comic-Con. He has worked for DC Comics and Marvel Comics for years and is an inker who has worked on comics such as Amazing Spider-Man, Incredible Hulk, Green Lantern and Justice League. Inker outlines, interprets, completes, and traces the pictures of comic books.
