Best Bets Feb. 12: NBA
San Antonio Spurs vs. Boston Celtics
With Jrue Holiday and possibly Jaylen Brown out, Boston should win this one. However, they have not been at their best at home this season. They actually have a better road record (22-6) than home (16-10 SU, 9-17 ATS (as a home favorite).
San Antonio is getting better. Victor Wembanyama is a beast, Chris Paul is one of the best distributors the game has ever seen, and De’Aaron Fox is going to get better the more comfortable he becomes with the Spurs.
At full strength, the Celtics cover this spread without thinking about it. But with the injuries they are dealing with and San Antonio’s improving roster, the Spurs could keep this one close.
Our Pick: Spurs +8.5 (FanDuel)
Victor Wembanyama, UNDER 23.5 Points at -102
After a big game like the one he just had against the Wizards, Wembanyama tends to take a step back and produce less. Against a defense like Boston’s, that’s even more likely. I wouldn’t be shocked if they were to try to feature Fox in order to give him more of a chance to acclimate to his new team.
Victor Wembanyama, OVER 3.5 Blocks at +114
Boston does not allow too many blocks (4.1 per game; tied for second lowest per game average). Wemby is averaging 3.0 per game this month and 3.9 over the course of the season and has had 4+ in two of his last three games.
Asking for four is a lot, but if anyone can pull it off against the Celtics, it’s Wembanyama.
