Fort Bragg Quilt Show
The June 2021 Fort Bragg Quilt Show will not be held as an indoor show again this year due to the COVID pandemic. However, the Ocean Wave Quilters will be having a one-day outdoor “On the Fence” quilt display on Saturday, June 26 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Veteran’s Memorial Building, corner of Laurel and Harrison Streets, Fort Bragg.
They will be displaying quilts on both sides of the fence, and selling tickets for their Opportunity Quilts and for raffle baskets! They’ll also have some vendors who will be selling fabric, jewelry, and other wonderful items. Contact info@oceanwavequilters.com for more information.
Willits Center for the Arts presents three artists
Nancy New tells us, “Pottery has always fascinated me. The process of transforming wet clay into every imaginable shape, subjecting it to extreme heat, and turning it to stone which can withstand the passage of time has been going on for thousands of years. Every piece is brand new, with infinite choices and creative possibilities.”
Anita Elliott-Wagenet is originally from Malibu, and is now a longtime resident of Willits. Since her retirement from registered nursing, she can now devote more time for her artistic hobbies, music and pottery. Her ceramic pieces are often created with an unconventional twist, incorporating sand from her favorite beaches, or magical herbs, right into the clay, giving each bowl, dish, or cup a certain subtle essence. Along with hand carved moths, bees, or dragonflies encircling bowls, most pieces will have art deco textures and patterns, as well as seascapes, moonscapes, florals, cats, horses, and llamas.
Suzi Long will be presenting Feathered Feet, a delightful show of watercolors, birds and shoes. Suzi was born in Santa Cruz and before she called herself “Artist,” she was a Xerox technician, word processor and editor, and started her 9 to 5 life as an executive secretary after graduating in 1966 from Katharine Gibbs school, New York.
In Honolulu after Xerox, Suzi studied art at UH, painted signs and murals, and established her mural business Whimsy Walls in 1978. She returned to the San Francisco Bay area in 1987 and painted hundreds of residential and restaurant murals from Palm Springs to Squaw Valley. Suzi is blessed with the gift to share her visions, and when she learned at the age of 50 that her biological grandfather was a decorative painter and muralist, she at last understood her raison d’etre.
The show opens Friday, June 25 from 6 to 9 p.m. and runs through July 25. The Gallery is located at 71 E. Commercial St., (next to the Noyo Theater). They are open Friday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Flynn Creek Circus emerges from lockdown!
Experience a comedic circus ‘”Fairytale.” Riotously funny, deeply moving and dangerously inspiring, this charmingly fresh all human circus will be raising their vintage big top tent this Summer and Fall, 2021.
Driven by original story line, high caliber artists and powerful imagery, the show is daring, edgy and hilarious. This year’s story, “Fairytale,” is an irreverent fable featuring a bombastic unicorn and his estranged back end in a quest to bring the youth back from the void. Thwarted by the mischievous weaver and the thieving Ravens, and upstaged by his own back end at every turn, our Unicorn’s journey takes a bumpy road to redemption. Aerialists, contortionists, jugglers, comedians and acrobats are some of the thrilling acts for this year’s presentation.
Flynn Creek Circus provides maximum public safety in live events. Reserve “social bubble” seating, outdoor atmosphere, frequent sanitation, mask requirements and social distancing within the big top space are some of the measures that ensure a fun and comfortable experience for all audiences. Fun, physical activity in an open air environment! Kids will have room to play and learn in the colorful big top with the guidance of the professional circus staff. This limited enrollment workshop will train students in aerial arts, tightwire, pole and acrobatics while maintaining comprehensive safety protocols.

WCT presents ‘The Viewing Room’
Willits Community Theatre will open on Friday, July 2 with live theater for a three-week run of “The Viewing Room,” a funny two-act play about a stern and very dead patriarch who comes back to life for a chance to make amends with his family.
