Apple Announces iPhone 17e With A19 SoC And Proprietary C1X Modem

Apple has officially unveiled the iPhone 17e, a new entry-level model designed to balance high-end performance with a more accessible price point. The device introduces several significant hardware upgrades, including the transition to a 256 GB base storage capacity and the integration of Apple’s first proprietary 5G modem.

At the core of the iPhone 17e is the A19 chip, built on a 3-nanometer process. Featuring a 6-core CPU and a 4-core GPU with hardware-accelerated ray tracing, the chip is reportedly twice as fast as the iPhone 11.

A key technical highlight is the C1X modem. This Apple-designed component offers up to double the speeds of previous entry-level models while consuming 30% less power than the modems found in the iPhone 16 Pro series. This efficiency contributes to improved battery life, even during heavy 5G usage.

Display and Build

The device features a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with 1,200 nits peak HDR brightness. Durability is enhanced by Ceramic Shield 2, which Apple claims is three times more scratch-resistant than previous generations. The aerospace-grade aluminum chassis is IP68-rated for water and dust resistance and now includes the customizable Action Button.

Camera and Software

The imaging system is headlined by a 48 MP Fusion camera capable of 2x optical-quality telephoto crops. It supports 4K Dolby Vision at 60 fps and spatial audio recording. Running on iOS 26, the device utilizes ā€œLiquid Glassā€ visual design and native Apple Intelligence for tasks like real-time call translation and visual lookups.

Pricing and Availability

The iPhone 17e is available in Light Pink, White, and Black. Pre-orders are expected to begin in early March, offering a high-performance alternative for users seeking the latest Apple Silicon and AI features without the ā€œProā€ price tag. In the United States, the pricing starts at $599 for the 256 GB and $799 for the 512 GB variant.
