What about your first fashion moment?
I remember the moment in which I realised I was badly dressed. It was in year 6 of primary school and I was wearing a pair of fleecy-lined khaki trousers that my mum had embroidered a patch of strawberries on, my brother’s stripey velour jumper and black school shoes. I looked down and thought, I don’t know about this.
“One thing I notice about getting older is that I’m much more confident. I’m less concerned about what people think and more interested in how fabulous I feel.”
What was your worst fashion mistake?
I went through a period of wearing nightwear as outerwear. I took a break from my university study and lived in Scotland and worked in a fruit and veg shop in Glasgow. When I got on the plane to leave I was wearing a pair of my father’s pyjama shorts. He’s never let me forget it. Looking back, I’m forced to agree with him that it was indeed a chronic fashion blunder.
What are you currently coveting?
I’ve got my eyes on a vintage Vivienne Westwood pink corset dress on eBay.
Is there a current fashion trend you like?
I never really know what’s going on, fashion-wise. I’m influenced by lots of things from the past and I like the opportunity to bring them back.

Is there something you would never wear?
Hats, but not because I don’t love hats. I have a massive head and heaps of hair, so I rarely find a hat that isn’t a beanie that fits on my scone.
What shoes do you wear most often?
My bright green Radical Yes sneakers – they’re comfortable and they put a smile on my face.
Who’s your favourite fashion icon?
Vivienne Westwood. She’s ornery and bold but at the same time thoughtful. I love the sense of not giving a damn that she’s always brought to design.
What do you wear on a casual Sunday?
An old jumper and jeans. I switch off when I am in my own neighbourhood; you can get around looking however you want and that’s an absolute delight. One thing I notice about getting older is that I’m much more confident. I’m less concerned about what people think and more interested in how fabulous I feel.
