“First, it’s worth recognizing that there is an addiction. Because most people believe that they are using gadgets because they want to, and to admit addiction is to admit that you have lost control. Secondly, it is worth installing a program that counts the number of hours (that the user spends using gadgets. — RT), if it is not sewn into the phone itself. And look at what time is spent on, what resources, and calculate how much time it takes in a year. Then remember all the unfinished business and be horrified at how long a person sits in social networks and at the same time did not call his mother, did not fasten the shelf, and so on, ”said the specialist.
The expert also advised multiplying this time by your hourly salary to see how much money you have lost while sitting on the phone, instead of working hard or actively relaxing.
“It is necessary to separate two concepts: “I want” and “I am drawn there by addiction.” It is important to stand in the second position. To understand what things are, write a list: “What I want.” For example, I want to lose ten extra pounds. We immediately ask ourselves the question: “Does the phone help me in this or hinder me”? It interferes, because it limits my activity. Next: “I want to take a new position at work. Does sitting on the phone help or hinder? And every time to see if sitting on the phone pushes you to the goals, ”said the psychologist.
In his opinion, if a person wants all this, but he is drawn to the phone, then it is not he who wants it, but he is “drawn, like alcoholics are drawn to a bottle, and smokers to a cigarette.”
“It is important not to expect that there will be no difficulties in the way of this detoxification. The phone itself is not the enemy. If used wisely, it can help. It won’t work out at once, and with the position that I can easily deal with everything now, a breakdown occurs, a feeling of dissatisfaction with myself, a feeling of guilt, negativity, anger at myself, and this interferes even more. It is worth understanding that I will have difficulties, but I am ready for them, ”concluded Horse.
