UPDATED, July 8, 2026: Another trailer for Denis Villeneuve’s final Dune film is here.
Zendaya’s Chani is not happy with Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreidies, who “promised” her that he would never “take power in [his] name.” Jason Momoa‘s Duncan Idaho remarks how the Lisan al-Gaib has “conquered the galaxy” and “destroyed thousands of worlds.”
When asked what he thinks of that by Paul himself, Idaho says “I think you’re way beyond redemption.”
Florence Pugh’s Princess Irulan and Robert Pattinson‘s Scytale can be spotted discussion the latter’s motive for a “regime change,” which Irulan translates to killing Paul.
“Idiot,” she tells Pattinson’s blonde villain. “You’ve just signed our death warrants.”
A glimpse can also be seen of Anya Taylor-Joy‘s Alia Atreides, covered in blood and screaming, as well as Paul and Chani’s twins, held by their parents. The clip ends with Chani summoning a sandworm.
PREVIOUS, March 17, 2026: Fans of the Dune franchise are getting their first peek at Dune: Part Three, with Warner Bros and Legendary releasing the debut trailer Tuesday (watch it below).
The film, which hits theaters December 18, sees Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Javier Bardem and Anya Taylor-Joy — who had a cameo in Part Two — back, with Robert Pattinson among the new additions to the cast.
On Monday, character posters were released showing the key players, including the above as well as Rebecca Ferguson, Jason Momoa and franchise newcomer Isaach de Bankolé.
The trailer for the threequel, which takes place 17 years after the events of Dune: Part Two, opens with Zendaya’s Chani asking Chalamet’s Paul, “If we have a girl, what will we name her?” If it’s a boy, she says they should name him Leto — after Duke Leto Atreides, Paul’s father — because then “he would have the wisdom of his grandfather.”
Then, amid scenes of vicious battle, we see Pattinson’s character of Scytale, with his platinum blond buzz cut.
Paul, also sporting a buzz cut now, runs to the top of a plinth, high above a massive, cheering crowd. Then we see him facing an opponent in the desert. “I’m not afraid to die,” we hear him say in voice-over, “but I must not die yet.” In the final clip, Chani steels herself and runs toward an invisible adversary.
Dune is Legendary’s expansive, multi-format sci-fi universe based on Frank Herbert’s Hugo Award-winning novel series. The collection has included two feature films, 2021’s Dune: Part One and last year’s Dune: Part Two, which earned a combined $1.12 billion at the global box office and won eight Oscars from 15 nominations, including Best Picture noms for both.
Denis Villeneuve directed and co-wrote all three pics.
The universe’s most recent entry is prequel TV series Dune: Prophecy, from Lost writer-producer Alison Schapker and set 10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides. The series premiered on HBO and Max in November.
PREVIOUS, March 16, 2026: Finally! The trailer for Dune: Part Three is here (well, it will be Tuesday).
Deadline has been shown the brand new trailer for Dune: Part Three, and also took part in a Q&A with director Denis Villeneuve. All will be revealed tomorrow, so check back to see the trailer and read Villeneuve’s comments about the film and all the spice revealed.
Already, the pump is being primed for the third installment, with star Timothée Chalamet revealing his character poster on his social media Monday. Warner Bros has since made several character posters available (see below) including what seems to be the new news that Isaach de Bankolé has joined the cast, playing Farok.
Among the other juicy tidbits fans are awaiting: the revelation of new cast members (some of which we’ve already reported); the fate of Chalamet’s Paul Atreides and Zendaya’s Chani, and just how much we will see of Rebecca Ferguson this time around…
Dune: Part Three, adapted from the 1969 Frank Herbert book Dune Messiah, is set to hit theaters on December 18, 2026.
So far, this is what we’ve reported about the hotly awaited threequel: Robert Pattinson confirmed his participation, saying “When I was doing Dune it was so hot in the desert that I just couldn’t question anything,” and, “it was so relaxing, like my brain actually wasn’t operating. I did not have a single functioning brain cell. And I was just listening to Denis: ‘Whatever you want!’” Insiders have also told Deadline in prior reporting that Pattinson will be playing the villain role of Scytale.
Villeneuve reportedly shot the film last summer, using Imax cameras (in part).
Anya Taylor-Joy, who was teased at the end of the second film, will be joining the cast in the role of Chalamet’s younger sister Alia.
Pattinson, Taylor-Joy and de Bankolé where all included among the nine character posters released Monday.
