Tam loses overtime battle with St. Ignatius

Quinn Concannon scored six times for the Tam High boys water polo team battled St. Ignatius into overtime on Thursday night.

The Wildcats scored the eventual game winner in the second overtime to escape with a 13-12 victory.

Gabe Hirner and Charlie Peters scored two goals apiece for the Red-tailed Hawks.

Girls volleyball

Elena Fisher and Sadie Snipes had 11 kills apiece to guide Branson to a 25-15, 25-14, 25-23 victory against Acalanes on Thursday. Logan Tusher filled up the stat sheet with 31 assists, seven aces and four kills. Gia Fisher had a team-high 11 digs.

  • Mary Healy had 11 kills and seven aces and Tenley Brovelli had 18 assists to lift San Rafael to a 25-9, 25-12, 25-16 victory against Healdsburg on Thursday. Anna Merk added six kills and three blocks for the Bulldogs (4-0). Bella Stanger had 12 digs and six aces.
  • Tam also remained unbeaten in the preseason, getting 22 assists from Wesley Slavin in a 25-11, 25-14, 25-8 win against Petaluma on Thursday. Zoe Lyko had three blocks for the Red-tailed Hawks (6-0). Grace Widdifield had five kills and two aces while Cloe Chamberlin had four kills and three blocks.
  • Novato junior Theo Hayse put together back-to-back monster games as the Hornets lost to Maria Carrillo on Wednesday then defeated Rancho Cotate on Thursday. Hayse had 20 kills on Wednesday and 21 more on Thursday. Alexis Weiss had 20 and 17 assists in the two games, respectively. Emerson Burt tallied 11 aces over the two games and added nine kills against Rancho Cotate. Lauren Cervantez had 15 assists against Rancho.
  • San Domenico got good performances from Becca Spitz, Tanya Yeung, Noku Mukuluku and Leili Montakhab in its first win of the young season, 25-23, 19-25, 25-20, 25-18 over Galileo on Thursday.

Girls tennis

Gabriella Plonowski, Annabelle Halloran, Hannah Perlana and Larkin Petersen led the way as Tam swept the Nos. 1-4 singles matches, respectively, en route to a 7-0 win in its MCAL opener against San Marin on Thursday.

  • Annesley Kravitt, Jennie Liu and Gwen Ricordel picked up victories at Nos. 2-4 singles, respectively as Redwood took down Terra Linda, 6-1, on Thursday. En-Ya Zhang picked up the lone win for TL at No. 1 singles, outlasting Georgia Harms in a 6-2, 2-6, 10-6 battle. Earlier in the week, Redwood picked up a 5-2 victory against Archie Williams.
  • Carly Amborn picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles as Archie Williams edged Marin Catholic, 4-3, on Thursday. Ana Fatjo and Audrey Johnston picked up wins at Nos. 2 and 3 singles, respectively. Anna Werner won a super-tiebreaker at No. 4 singles for MC.

Men’s soccer

Freshman midfielder Alexandre Bernier scored in the 35th minute for Dominican but despite a hefty edge in possession and shots, the Penguins had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Cal State East Bay in their season opener on Thursday night. Dominican attempted 31 shots and put 17 on them on frame while limited Cal State East Bay to seven total shots and only five on target.
