LISBON, Portugal – Former Purdue Fort Wayne setter Frederico Santos has returned home to Portugal to play professional volleyball for Sporting Clube de Portugal (SCP).
Santos, who played for four seasons with the Mastodons, will find a new volleyball home in Lisbon, Portugal, around three hours from his home city of Porto. Sporting is a six time champion of the Portuguese Volleyball First Division, the best league in Portugal. Their most recent title came in 2017-18. In 2020-21, Sporting won the Portuguese Cup.
“I’m very excited for this new adventure,” Santos said. “Purdue Fort Wayne helped me a lot because it helped me learn how to give it everything I have every day. I have to thank everyone at Purdue Fort Wayne. It was honor to represent the ‘Dons.”
As a junior at Purdue Fort Wayne, Santos was second in the nation and led the MIVA in assists per set with 10.75. He was a member of the Portuguese Men’s National Volleyball Team system since 2013, where he won six national championships with A.A. Sao Mamede.
