Transitional Autumn Capsule Wardrobe Staples For Any Minimalist

I’m going to say this softly, slowly, so as not to offend: summer will soon come to an end. A tragedy for many, myself included. But as we tend to be lucky with the weather in September, here’s hoping for a seamless transition into autumn, softened with a handful of minimalist wardrobe staples before we have to pull out (dare I say it) the big coat. Because if you have become as accustomed as I have to wearing flip flops every day, we can, collectively, continue until our toes all but freeze off—with the help of some tiny outfit tweaks.

Take swapping your little lace cami for a striped long-sleeve tee. Trading the crisp cotton sundress for a silky, autumn-printed pick. And buying into balloon trousers over the currently trending micro-length counterparts. Infinitely more practical, without packing away the entirety of your summer wardrobe just yet. And you need a surprisingly small number of pieces to make it happen. Consider this your transeasonal capsule starter pack for those on the more minimalist side of style.

Though when the time does come to actually retire the flip flop—have you seen the new kitten-heeled Havaianas?—try the block-heeled ballet pump before being tempted by boots. It will be a while before our little piggies can feel the breeze again.

Style Notes: There are few better feelings than throwing a warm, soft knit round your shoulders the second you start to shiver. Which is why the cardigan is such a solid transeasonal staple: not quite as cosy as a full jumper, but you’ll never struggle to find 100 ways to wear it.
